    What We Want:

    The Compliance Counsel is responsible for supporting the implementation of Spring Venture Group’s Compliance program and requires a working knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations applicable to health insurance agencies. This position will provide oversight to the compliance efforts at all business locations outside the Kansas City metropolitan area, along with providing support to the compliance efforts at the main Kansas City office location as necessary.  The position requires approximately 40% travel to business locations outside the Kansas City metropolitan area.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Compliance Department in the implementation of the Company’s Compliance program. 
    • Oversee compliance activities at business locations outside the Kansas City metropolitan area, including those related to HIPAA Privacy, in accordance with SVG policies and procedures as well as applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Research and advise on federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations that impact all SVG agencies including but not limited to HIPAA and TCPA. Provide other legal research as assigned by the Sr. Compliance Counsel.
    • Conduct contract reviews and drafting of legal documents as assigned by the Sr. Compliance Counsel/Privacy Officer.
    • Aid in the development and revisions of policies and procedures consistent with established legal principles and requirements.
    • Escalate compliance and privacy concerns to the Sr. Compliance Counsel/Privacy Officer and other upper Compliance Management.
    • Assess product, compliance, privacy or operational risks and contribute to risk management strategies.
    • Monitor, track and provide regular reports on compliance activities at business locations outside the Kansas City Metropolitan area to keep the compliance management team informed of important compliance and privacy concerns and the status of remediation activities.
    • Partner with the Sr. Compliance Counsel/Privacy Officer and SVG Training Specialists to provide compliance and regulatory training (e.g., TCPA and Privacy) at business locations as needed.
    • Perform HIPAA Privacy desk audits and work with the Sr. Compliance Counsel/Privacy Officer in resolving any HIPAA issues that occur. Support other business audit requirements as requested.
    • Contribute to the annual Compliance Work Plan.
    • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations to ensure compliance practices. 
    • Other job duties as assigned.
    • Predictable and reliable attendance required.

    Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with admittance to at least one state bar in good standing.
    • Minimum of 5 years of similar or related experience
    • Thorough understanding and knowledge of HIPAA and TCPA.  HIPAA Privacy Officer experience preferred.
    • Prior experience in health insurance compliance
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Acute listening skills.
    • Excellent legal research skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to record detailed information thoroughly and accurately.
    • Ability to work independently and with coworkers and share knowledge as part of a team.
    • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well in diverse cultures with diverse personalities whether local or virtual.
    • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive as well as responsive —and able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.
    • Self-motivated.
    • Law License in at least one state
    • Healthcare Compliance, Privacy Certifications are a plus.
